A CCTV recorder stores the video from your cameras. The type you need depends on the cameras you plan to use.
DVR โ Digital Video Recorder
A DVR works with analog and HD-over-coax cameras. Each camera is connected to the recorder with a coaxial cable, and the recorder converts and stores the video. It is a proven, cost-effective choice for shops, homes and small offices.
NVR โ Network Video Recorder
An NVR works with IP cameras connected through LAN cable, often powered over the same cable using PoE. Video is processed in the camera, which allows higher resolutions and flexible placement across a network.
Which one should you choose?
- Upgrading an old coaxial system on a budget โ a DVR is usually simplest.
- New installation or large premises โ an NVR with IP cameras gives more flexibility.
- Need remote viewing on a phone โ both types can offer it when set up correctly.
Do not forget
- Hard disk size decides how many days of footage you keep.
- Good cabling and connectors matter as much as the cameras.
- Regular servicing keeps lenses clean and recordings reliable.
We supply and support DVR and NVR systems, cameras, and the LAN and coaxial cable to go with them.
